D-ID is an AI video generation platform that enables users to create talking avatar videos from photos and text. Their Deep Nostalgia technology went viral in 2022 through a partnership with MyHeritage, and their API powers content creation for major brands including Warner Brothers Pictures, Publicis, and Mondelez.

The Challenge

D-ID's groundbreaking video animation technology was contributing to viral AI-generated content—including when YouTuber Damon Fox used D-ID alongside Midjourney and ElevenLabs to create "Harry Potter by Balenciaga," one of the first viral AI videos of its kind—but D-ID's platform was only accessible via desktop. This limitation was cutting them off from the mobile-first users who wanted to animate photos, create personalized content, and generate AI videos on the go. The company needed to translate their web-based API capabilities into a native mobile experience while adding mobile-specific features like real-time selfie animation and in-app voice recording. Without a mobile presence, D-ID risked losing momentum to competitors and missing the massive opportunity to put generative AI video creation directly into users' pockets.

The Solution

A.Team assembled a team of six expert mobile developers who integrated directly with D-ID's product team to build the mobile app from the ground up. The blended team took an agile approach, focusing on overcoming the technical complexities of mobile development while navigating App Store approval requirements and maintaining the creative power of D-ID's existing platform. Rather than simply porting the web application, the team built mobile-native functionality that enabled users to turn selfies into avatars and record voice narration directly within the app. They implemented rapid deployment capabilities through code push to iterate quickly based on user feedback. The team delivered a fully functional MVP in under five months, bridging the gap between D-ID's web-based Studio and mobile user expectations. This accelerated timeline allowed D-ID to capitalize on their viral momentum without the lengthy onboarding and hiring process of traditional team building.
